Suggestions Related to Glyph Design

(Moved from Concerning the Character for Jyutping Cycler)

Upon 3.0, I strongly suggest you to do the following:

  • Assuming you are anyway going to regenerate all the glyphs, either enable or disable stylistic set ss04 to fix the kerning after g. Alternatively, if there’s no way to toggle stylistic sets, why not replace the base fonts with pre-patched ones? In either way, I don’t think you need custom patches on g on your side (Elixir?), they should be removed.
  • Don’t special case punctuations and just treat them like normal Chinese characters with no pronunciations. This maintain their sizes, paddings and vertical positions the same as those of Chinese characters (By the “same” I mean keeping the original size and proportion as in the base font) while keeping their glyph design the same as the base font. (Using Hei punctuations in a Sung font is too inconsistent.) I believe that with this approach the result should be visually pleasing to most user. I don’t think there’s a need to manually resize or pad them.
  • Slightly raise (or shorten) the annotation marker brackets, they look too close to the descender to me currently.
