As of 2.7 / 2.8, Cantonese Font do not include any of the 2Exx 2Fxx blocks which are the Kangxi 康熙 radicals, and radicals as ideograph. There is a proposal to include these glyphs (~200 x 2). I’m opening this thread for discussion.
From the font-making perspective, there exists these upstream glyphs in Chiron. What is not clear to me is what the benefits are to adding the radicals (in either format) to the Cantonese Font. In what situation would a user access these glyphs?
The only situation I can see is when teachers try to point out a component as part of their teaching, in which other fonts would do to indicate the shape. Adding kiu5 si1 bin1 to the top of the radical entry isn’t exactly helping, and the extended length is problematic.
(Internally, ExCantonese rejects 3+ syllable Jyutping, though it probably is a small change to change this to 4+ syllable.)
I’m also not sure what the proper names of these are, and if there is a central list easily found.
I think for the teaching purpose, it might actually be more useful if the annotation is not Jyutping, but rather the Chinese name. This would mean drawing these glyphs separately — but maybe these codepoints ought to be handled separately like a special feature.
