Canto Font v2 - online promotion

I think more wide-spread adoption… Like if someone older (40s+) sees her niece or cousin using it or a local celebrity using it that would make it easier to convince someone that hey this is something that isn’t high risk that would be a security issue. From what I understand you only have a loyal following of a few folks like me haha.

I agree that some social proof is very desirable for adoption. I’m not sure if I can summon a local celebrity  I think shedding my camera-averse trait would also help (so it’s not just a Cocker Spaniel avatar selling a too-good-to-be-true technology that never existed before).

With 2.1.0.0 stabilizing the character readings, I’ll be pumping out sample materials as well. I think seeing concrete “what this can do” would also help convince adoption / trying out.

Maybe you can consider reaching out to some Cantonese e-celebs. They would be marketed towards ABCs but it may be worth a shot as they already have a good platform, and marketing towards people who learn. Insprilang (Jade) https://www.youtube.com/@InspirLang/videos and Brittany
https://www.youtube.com/@cantobritt come to mind. I think some of the Cantonese Alliance people may have some personal connections as well.

Thanks for the names. Let me keep pushing onto 2.2.0 — it’s imminent — which have the

  • English-Chinese,
  • Spanish-Chinese,
  • Chinese-English, and
  • Chinese-Spanish Spanish have to wait until everything else stabilizes in English first

phrasebooks in an imperfect but useful fashion.

I think that is the right version (together with clear instructions) to really get into the hands of testers / early adopters, and getting feedback on these forums. (From that point to the final release, improvements would be substantial (e.g., new languages, map-book, slang collections, grammar-book) but incremental.)

So… hopefully reaching out to them soon (next week, fingers crossed).

I finally feel that the Canto Fonts are fully formed (now that there’s font variants, benchmarks, translate, grammar), and I have written to Jade and Brittany to see if they are interested in Early Access.

agree that the promotion can be at the second stage, only when a product is stable and ready, one can start to promote it.

In my opinion, no need to work with youtuber, simply create your own youtube visual font channel and show people the functions.

then you can "work with creator like me"haha, and start to use VF on ebook/free educational video on youtube.

good luck, and you can put your stuff on some facebook/ reddit forum on cantonese resource sharing.

you can also go "milk milk"the hk channel. haha

Fully stable and ready would probably need to wait until mid-April. I am waiting for that to pass free licenses to v1 supporters, and to invite another bloc of creators/teachers.

Publicity will take time, and I’m camera-shy, so I’ll need to think about that. My sense is that I should try to spend my time on things that only I can do.

I think it is a good idea to have a “directory” on the front-page, i.e., “you liked this presentation? Here are the (e)books that had been written with it and that we can recommend”.

I had contacted Mill Milk for v1; after it’s in general public I’ll look for them again.

at one point making a pdf may help to pitch your idea. put all the feature in 1 or 2 pages of pdf and so people can download or forward to their friends. (idea from HBL).

I have camera shy too, I know what you mean~!

同埋, 可以的話, please have a chinese webpage at one point
真係有啲人, 英文閱讀力低.

PDF is a great idea. That is certainly in my element.

Yes, I know it is very important to have a Chinese (actually, 粵文) public facing page (only make sense for this project!). There will be a Chinese version of all the pages, ETA mid-Apr. I just type 5 times slower. With only me doing data and fonts and backends and web and docs and sales and support and accounting… while having a dance studio, and no one iRL respecting my time, I need to pick my battles.
